Welcome to the home of our #iBuiltThis2017 campaign.

This exciting new campaign is open to everyone who has a passion for building, construction, design, fit-out, interiors and more.  We would like everybody to participate and enter this competition.  It is open to children, young adults and the men, women and apprentices operating right now in the UK Built Environment.


Here at FIS Skills we have been on a mission to find the talented winners of the #iBuiltThis2017 competition. We have 3 categories of entry ready for vote casting, which you will find below.

You can vote for your favourite in each category daily until midnight Sunday 1st October 2017

The live results and #iBuiltThis2017 winners will be announced by Architect George Clarke, live on stage at U.K. Construction Week 2017.

The #iBuiltThis2017 Judging Panel includes a wide and varied body of experts from across the UK including Construction Industry Leaders, Public Figures, Construction Educators & Contractors and Entrepreneurs.


  • Amanda Clack | RICS President

    Amanda Clack | RICS President

    Amanda Clack FRICS took office as RICS President on 27 June 2016. Amanda joined EY as a Partner in August 2015 as the Head of Infrastructure (Advisory) for the UK and Ireland. Prior to this she was a partner at another of the Big Four accountancy firms. Qualifying as a quantity surveyor and in project management, Amanda is a Fellow of RICS, the Association for Project Management, the Royal Society of Arts, the Institute of Consulting and the Institute of Management.

    Mark Farmer | Founding Director & CEO at CAST

    Mark has nearly 30 years of experience in the construction and real estate sectors and has become a recognised commentator and thought leader on a variety of issues. He is also playing a leading role in modernising the construction industry through the adoption of higher productivity strategies, including greater levels of pre-manufacturing using more integrated and digitally enabled delivery models. Mark is a member of the RICS, Vice Chairman of the ULI UK Residential Council, a member of the BPF Build to Rent sub-committee and co-chairman of Constructing Excellence. Mark authored the October 2016 UK Government Review of the Construction Labour Market Model entitled ‘Modernise or Die’.

    Steve Neilson | Managing Director Worksmart Contracts Ltd

    Steve Neilson is Managing Director of Worksmart Contracts and the #makeitworksmart group, an interior contractor based in Scotland and England who specialise in Interior Fit-Out, Refurbishment, Partitioning and Storage Solutions for all Client sectors throughout the UK. Steve has a vast background in Quantity Surveying and Project Management along with a wide and varied knowledge of the fit-out and construction markets. Worksmart work on small, medium and large projects across the UK in all market sectors and works closely with getting more youth into Construction and Apprentice programmes.
  • Wyn Prichard | Director of Construction Skills & Business Strategy at NPTC Group

    Wyn Prichard | Director of Construction Skills & Business Strategy at NPTC Group

    Wyn is the Director of Construction Skills and Business Strategy at NPTC Group of Colleges.  His role is to look at partnerships with bodies in the UK and beyond, to deliver for the sector, the skills they need. During his time at the Group, a number of Alliances have been agreed and are meeting the emerging needs of the construction industry. The slogan of the Group, is more than just a College, and Wyn’s role is to meet that statement.    Wyn has held posts with the CITB Wales, for over 14 years as the Wales Director overseeing the performance and strategy of CITB in Wales.  He has also worked with Wales Government and Training/Enterprise Councils, and had an early career in Banking.

    Brendan Williams is the Founder and Chief Executive of Building Heroes, a charity established in 2014 to help Military Veterans and Service leavers re-train into jobs in the construction Industry. After 25 years working at leading Global Investment Banks specialising in Operations and Technology and ending up as a Chief Operating Officer it was time to give something else a go. Born into a long line of specialist master bricklayers the opportunity to help start Building Heroes was too difficult to pass up. Being Chief Executive draws on all my cross disciplinary experience and brings more rewards than banking ever could. You only have to be told once that you have changed someone’s life for the better to know all the hard work is worthwhile.

    From award winning apprentice to young entrepreneur, 23 year old Jack Parsons has been labelled the Prime Minister of Millennials and is rapidly changing youth employment. Bridging the skills gap, Jack is disrupting conventional working and recruitment methods to help businesses understand the needs of the next generation. As CEO of - an online network connecting young professionals to relevant brands - Jack is also inspiring Generation Now to realise their potential and showcase their skills.  A Non - Executive Director of two tech startups, a Charity Trustee, Mentor and Co-lead of one of the largest tech education groups in London, Jack has also made the pledge to connect 2 million millennials to commercial opportunities by 2020. Yup, 2 MILLION!

    Steve Coley | President of the Finishes and Interiors Sector (FIS)

    Steve Coley started his working life in 1988 as a suspended ceiling fixer working for his father’s company Lakeside Ceilings and Partitions (LCP), where he gained valuable experience learning the trade from an installation perspective. He has been in his current position as managing director / contracts manager for LCP for 17 years.  Steve became the President of the FIS in February 2015.

    George Clarke | Architect

    George Clarke is an architect, creative director of George Clarke + Partners, and a founder of TV production company Amazing Productions. George is the presenter of several very successful series for television, including Channel 4's George Clarke's Amazing Spaces, Restoration Man and The Great British Property Scandal.

    George was born and raised in Sunderland and from the age of 12 wanted to be an architect. He studied architecture at the University of Newcastle and later at The Bartlett, University College London.

    George will be announcing the winners of #iBuiltThis2017 live on stage at UK Construction Week at the NEC Birmingham on the 10th October 2017.
